These curtains have plastic or metal rings sewn at the top of their fabric panels, through which a curtain rod or pole can pass (direct threading). They slide quickly and smoothly, are very easy to deal with and suit every type of modern and traditional decor. It is also easy to remove them.
For this, you will have to install hooks onto your track rail, followed by sliding the curtain panel’s eyelets onto the hooks. The hooks will then be secured into the runners of the track. Eyelet drapes are not inherently meant for track rails so a special track with hooks is required.
Light and medium-weight fabrics work best in this regard, such as linen, cotton, polyester and faux silk. For the best results, you should avoid using way too heavy fabrics like silk, velvet or brocade drapes. Also, do not use very stiff fabrics, like corduroy as those become hard to handle.
While this mainly depends on the width of the curtain panel and how much fullness you need, there does exist a certain rule of thumb. According to this, one eyelet is needed for every 4 inches of curtain panel width. For instance, if a curtain panel is 48 inches wide, it will need 12 eyelets.
The main difference is that grommets are a two-piece system (featuring a washer and a stem) and larger in size, plus more robust too. Whereas eyelets are a one-piece system (the metal gets folded over itself during installation). They are smaller in size and mostly used with curtains.
